What is an SSL Certificate?

What is SSL?

SSL stands for Secure Socket Layer which is a security protocal that operates between a browser and a website. It encrypts any data being sent between the two, so that 3rd parties cannot steal this information. This makes it safe for card payments and personal info to be submitted online.

What Does It Do?

As well as encrypting the information sent between the browser and the website, it gives your customers reasurrance that the site they are on is safe and secure, because it displays the golden padlock in the address bar, along with the https.

Cobalt Web customers are welcome to install SSL certificates on their hosting accounts if they wish. Customers can install SSLs purchased from 3rd parties or purchased direct from us. Any certificates purchased from us include a free dedicated IP, and free professional installation.

You will need to purchase a dedicated IP seperately for installing SSLs from third parties.
